If you have been to any Georgia Bulldogs basketball games this year (or watched them on television), you might have noticed an athletic-looking (guard-type) that is on the UGA bench – usually in a red collared shirt. He converses with other players and huddles with team during timeouts.
Who is this mystery fellow you might ask?
It is non other than 6’1″ transfer point guard Gerald Robinson, Jr.
Robinson transferred to UGA after playing two seasons at Tennessee State University, where he led the Tigers in scoring last season (17.8 points) and was second on the team his freshman year (15.2 points). Matter of fact, all this guy does is score.
As a senior at Martin Luther King High School in Nashville, TN, Robinson paced his team with 29 points per game en route to the Region Semifinals and making him a McDonald’s All-American nominee. According to his profile on GeorgiaDogs.com, he once scored 64 points in merely the first 3 quarters of a game!
The casual on-looker might attribute Gerald’s scoring to the fact that he played in a weaker Ohio Valley Conference. But Mr. Robinson is no stranger to tough competition.
During his tenure at TSU, Robinson played against Georgia Tech (twice), Indiana, Vanderbilt, Illinois, Alabama and Kentucky. He averaged 17.1 points per game in these out-of-conference affairs.
He was named to the 2nd Team All-Ohio Valley Conference his sophomore year, and made the conference’s All-Freshman team in 2008.
With the departure of Ricky McPhee after this season, Robinson should give the Bulldogs some much-needed depth at the guard position next year.

That is great info… and why I love this blog. I didn’t notice Gerald, but heard a little about him. Just didn’t know he was such a prolific scorer. Can’t wait to see him next year. Do me a favor. Next time you have a chance to interview him, and I know you will, ask him why he came to Georgia… and be willing to sit out a year. Was it all because he was dissatisfied where he was, or did he actually want to play for Coach Fox? I’ve got a feeling the word will get out that the Dawgs coach is someone young players may want to learn from (and get to the next level). Go Dawgs – Beat Florida! Woof-woof!

Just discovered this site–great!!! I have been aware that Mr. Robinson was likely to be a major contributor next year. I have also wondered about recruiting targets for next year, having heard absolutely nothing to date (and seeing all the ESPN top 150 to date commiting to other schools). Have you any information about recruiting beyond the one commitment received back in the Fall?

For 2010, the only recruit we have offered (besides Cady Lalanne who accepted) is a power forward named Donte Williams. He plays for Miller Grove High School in Lithonia, GA. He is 6’9, 200 lbs and is listed as 3-star recruit by rivals.com.
As far as the 2011 class is concerned, Fox has already offered three 4-star recruits – if one of them signs that would be amazing for the program.

Adding another ballhandler and scorer to the mix next year, plus expected continued improvement of all returning players under Coach Fox, could make a Georgia a top 25 team next year.

Great info, let’s not forget that we are headed to the Old Spic Classic in Orlando next year- as we continue to upgrade the schedule the upgrade in recruits will come.

Mark Fox has made a believer out of me. I was at the game on Sat and was impressed with how UGA dominated from the start-end. UT is not #8 but they are a solid top 20 team.
Robinson will be a great shooting guard for UGA. We still need a solid Wayne Chism type Big Man next year.
